I will be getting one of the work trucks from my boss, it has been used as a service truck for last several years and as such, has high km on it, but engine oil has been changed regularly. Boss decided to get a new truck for service rather than keep on fixing the aging one.
Apparently the transmission has been starting to slip in it and I was thinking of doing a rebuild of it myself. As a kid I had spend a few summers removing, tearing down and replacing the turbo 350 in my dads old chevy pickup, so am sort of familiar with the procedures, but this time, I will be aquiring the proper special tools as needed to make the job go a lot smoother than the days back home, with coat hanger tools etc...lol.

The haven't taken posession of the truck yet, for the new one has to be decaled and fitted with a cap and racks etc, and the service guy is not sure of the year of it, but from photos I've searched, the headlights etc match up to a 2002 Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4x4 Off Road.

Not sure yet what kind of transmission I am dealing with yet either, but have just started to research on any and all info on the rebuild process for this vehicle.

If anyone can point me in the direction of some good, pertinent info I would greatly appreciate it. I am reading all the stuff here on transmission work and problems, but think that it would be more efficient to read more directly related information if possible.

I always buy a Haynes manual straight off for any new to me vehicle I get, but is there any manuals on transmission work and rebuilding etc. All Haynes says is take your transmission to a mechanic...um no, would like to tackle this one myself :) I have the time to tinker with it since my Windstar is still kicking atm (touching wood)...

Well, I downloaded the pdf for the 2003 Dodge Ram Manual and reading thru the transmission section. This is the goldmine I guess, step by step and what tools needed etc.
