Original problem was P1345 code & misfire and a P0171 code. I cleared the codes with my code reader and cleaned the MAF sensor with MAF sensor spray cleaner. I ran the the car and didn't even get to the corner and it started misfiring and ran sluggish, low power and then the CEL came back on. It only read P1345 this time, no pending codes. The Air intake is in rough shape so it is wrapped with duct tape where it's cracked. I changed the air filter because it was toast. I've also changed the spark plugs because they were toasty and the gap was huge. I changed the camshaft position sensor because that is related to the P1345 code and that obviously didn't fix it.
I re-checked the air intake hose... took it right off and made sure the tape was sealing up. I tried moving the wires around while the engine was running and that didn't have any effect on it. It seems to misfire more noticibly when the rpm's are above 1500. I checked vacuum lines to make sure they are all attached and not broken, I pulled connectors on vacuum components and clean them. Thanks

took it to a shop and was told that the timing belt skipped 8 notches, the tensioner was seized up and the tensioner spring is broken. They said when they do the job the valve cover gasket should also be replaced. when this is completed it wil be 600 hundred plus tax. cheaper than buying another car. I'll keep posting if something else turns up... hopefully it won't. knock on wood.

Do a smoke test to pinpoint any unmetered air leaks, thats causing your problem.

It's done and it runs like day I bought it. Idles so smooth you can hardly tell it's running and when you take off from a stop it goes like a bat out of hell. Had the water pump done so as not to tempt fate. The shop was full blown retail but they did it right. Knock on wood. Case closed.
