Gas Pedal & Engine Response

67 Pontiac Bonneville with 58,000 miles.
Engine: V8, 6.6L, 400in.
Trans: Auto, 3speed
I've just installed a new Edelbrock carb 1406 and intake manifold. Every thing is installed correctly and the car starts. When I hit the gas pedal it doesn't respond unless I take it to the floor. The pedal is connected to a mechanical mechanism on the firewall. Should I install a new pedal and remove the mechanism and install a cable?
Thanks in advance.

From here we cannot see what the issue is of course, do you have excess play in the linkage? Have someone step on the pedal while you look at what is happening up to the carb, no other way to solve this.
