Buyers Beware

I'm new here and have been viewing all the interesting posts and threads. I feel like I've found a new family here as I've loved the hobby for about 17 years. I've sold kits on eBay in the last year under the username "iwanabelieve" and have kept a decent feedback rating to this point. I also post frequently on some well-known Subaru forums such as NASIOC, I-Club, RS25, and bbs.Legacycentral.org . Aside from all this, my point is as follows. I have bought on eBay and I've bought from HLJ as many of you have probably done many times. However, I was burned badly on a deal with an eBay seller and wanted to give everyone here the heads up. Steer clear of this seller - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=2583&item=3133033578
Packaging from Hong Kong is only green paper wrapped around the kit like a gift. I have pictures showing the damage to an EVO and an STi kit and the seller refused to exchange or give me money back. I reported him to eBay but time passed and they never replied. Don't let this happen to you and please always check feedback or send a previous customer a quick e-mail to ask about their experience with the seller. I hope to become an active member here and look forward to seeing more of your amazing kits. I will try to photograph and post some of my models in your gallery. Good night for now.

eBay has some nice deals and most of the sellers are good, but the extra cash I spend at a reputable website or a store is worth the comfort of mind.
Sorry to hear you got burned on that deal. Hopefully your warning will protect us from future problems.

I am from Hong Kong. And I am sorry to see that your packages were broken. I think the seller is responsible for the damage as he mentioned "If the product get damaged during delivery, please report to me for compensation" , HE SHOULD MAKE COMPENSATION TO YOU!!!!
HOWEVER, endlesskev86 , please dont say all the swindlers all from HK.

I bought one model from this guy on ebay and it came without problems.
The packaging was actually this green paper (no box around the kit box).
The inside was well protected (bags taped not to allow them to move and the body was wrapped in a "foam sheet") so all the pieces came perfect.
I suppose I was lucky but I had no problems with this seller.

Search for "sanxler" on this forum and you'll see you're not the only one who was ripped off.
However it still is a shame this guy sells models.

Shame you didn't find us sooner, you would have heard all about this guy. How about doing this to try get your money back;
Find out his address, perhaps pose as a new customer wanting to send some cash for a purchase. When you know where he lives, find out where his nearest police station is and also the name of their head of police - a HK resident on AF could find this out for you. Also collect all the unresolved claims from AF'ers too. When you have all this, send the guy a well written message telling him you have all this information and will gladly pass it onto them if he doesn't cough up a refund.
Worth a try, u don't actually have to report it if you didn't want to. Just get enough info to make the guy crap his pants:D

WELCOME TO AF! Would love to see some of your work.
Thanks for the warning, sorry to hear of your bad experience. I'm from the UK and have purchased from a couple of ebay sellers in HK before. The green packaging is, I think, a bit 'standard' over there. My kits arrived pretty much ok. I think you were unfortunate to run into such an unscrupulous seller. I did find it rather poor of ebay not to get back to you though.

I just saw this message, and wants to tell you guys that you CAN DO THIS. And in fact, someone did report to police and I saw on the news that some guys were caught and put in jail BECAUSE DOING "FRAUD" ON INTERNET. YOU SHOULD REPORT TO YOUR LOCAL POLICE, and maybe you co-ordinate and group all the AF member (who have bad experience with that guy), and then report to the police. They will send the information to HK, and I sure HK police will trace the ip, info on ebay, etc......
p.s. just a thought, did the seller put any his information on the package?

I also bought a model from him, and I was lucky cause the model was perfect, but the box...... he sends the item only with green paper, and the box is in bad condition, I told him, and he said that If I made a collection of the boxes, I told him that I'm kinda of freak of models, and I want all in c10 condition! even the boxes, but.... I think that I'll order from him again, cause... I bought a mercedes DTM warsteiner, for only 9.90$ plus shipping costs, and in hlj it cost 18$, the double!, so... I can get two for the price of one, but..... if you say that some models have reached with broken parts... is a thing to think about

About a year ago i ordered a 1/24 Tamiya Subaru Sti off ebay from this guy in HK. The seller is now suspened and i unfortantetly forgot his name. But i am pretty sure he is the same exact person as heihei. My PROBELM was that when i got my item the windshield and other plastic parts were badly cracked. Im pretty sure it is the same dam guy as heihei since it was from HK and wrapped in just the thin green paper as you described. i hate sellers who package theyre items like S H I T

Also be careful of Sangpolly Her real name is Miss Wong Lai Ping; I've bought several items from her and they've all come wrapped in the same green paper wrapped around foam with the model inside. I have been lucky so far I guess but the last 2 models I received were bent at the front pillars! Her prices start out at $9.90 as was mentioned earlier in the thread. Hi, I have been following this forum for the last six month, and usually their is not much to add to what everyone else is saying about a subject, but I do know about this one so here my 2 cent's worth.
I have bought 5 items now of heiheihei999, 3 x Tamiya 206 WRC Winner Versions, and an M-26 Pershing, which have all arrived, I also bought a Tamiya Mustang two days ago, and have saved a huge amount compared to the UK prices.
No his packaging isn’t great, read his feedback and you will soon see this, but all the kits I have received have been ok so far, a little bashed in the post, but not broken. Also when the last item had taken three weeks to turn up, he was very quick to respond to my emails.
What he is, is the cheapest person on EBAY at present for cars. He is just as quick as HLJ, and the same or cheaper on postage, and the big plus if you live in the UK is that a kit including postage comes under the £18 customs level, so no nasty surprise from the post office when it arrives like I get with HLJ, the other Japanese stores.
Yes it is riskier than HLJ, or a model store, but I am willing to take the risk when I can get kits for a third to half the extortionate UK price.
If in doubt, order a kit at a time, this will limit your exposure if anything does go wrong.
BTW I have no other connection with this seller other than buying kits from him.
Hope to join in the discussions more now

the fact of being packed with green paper doesnt mean that the sellers are the same, I can say this sure, cause I also buy resin models from an online store of HK also, and the plastic boxes where the models come really well protected, also comes with the green envelope, the same one, so... I think that its really usual there, but no a reason to say that two sellers are the same. I'll buy more models from him, cause I can accept the fact of a c6 condition box with a c10 condition item when I can get it for 9.90 plus 8 of s&h, this same model could have a price of 17$ plus 7.78$ for SAL, wich take 17 days to arrive, with this gay, only takes a week, so.... btw... I'll buy models to him, but yeah, I'm afraid.
About buying models in my country... is stupid cause this model that has a price of 17 in hlj, and 9.90 with heiheihei, here has a price of 54$!!!! and for example, the williams 1/12 that he sells for about 46$, hlj and hobbyserach (where I bought it) has it for 82$ plus a lot of shipping :(, here has a price that reaches in some stores to 204$!!!!!

that's really too bad....but knowing the package was coming from so far away... should you have gotten insurance!!!!
I have purchased from ebay more than 75 items and always got insurance...I think he could definitly have wrapped the kit better , but how can someone be responsible for what happens during shipping???
just a thought...

Insurance, yes, is a good thing, but also he is totally responsible of damage during shipping cause he only places a green paper around the box, its normal that the box recieves some hit in the travel, but... for this reason, all the ebay sellers, and stores, place the items inside boxes, after this.. is up to the good spirit of the seller to protect the item more or less, but its like you buy a glass figure and he sends it to you only with green paper, the figure would reach completly broken, so.... yes, he is totally responsible of damage during shipping for this reason, if we were talking about extremely damage could be the shipping service, but.. as I said before all the items take more or less hits, have you seen how they transporters take out of their trucks the stuff?? I've seen letting fall tv's to the floor, so... what can I say.
The solution a simple box, so.. the box will recieve the hits, I prefer to pay 1$ plus for the box than recieve a c6 box.

About the packaging, if you have ordered from hlj, you will see they use "Cling wrap" to wrap the model boxes with a "paper card" (WHICH IS LARGER THAN THE SIZE OF THE MODEL CARS) at the bottom, and then put in a box.
I think this is the CORRECT way of sending parcel overseas, as it leaves gaps between the main box and the model kits boxes, which the gap can absorb any hit or press from the outside.
And the CLing Wrap can avoid moisture or water or heat to make the white decal into pale/yellow color. The kit I ordered from hlj used this method and never went into problem.
I think the ebay seller should do this kind of wrapping, it just costs him several minutes and probably just some old card box. I think even though his parcel were insuranced, I gurantee the box will be hit and press anyway. He is just taking risk.

yup, the best way is using a box, cause.... eventhoughyou ask for insurance, yes, you'll e sure to recieve the item in c10 condition, or you'll have a refund of the shipping company, or maybe from him dont know, but.... this is a bad thing, cause I'm sure that everyone will claim for refunds on each shipment that he makes, so.... the fact of using a box, should do it, but... this guy doesnt seem to understand this.

the thing is like I said in other reply is that I recieved the model in c10, the box c6, but... the difference at the time of payment..... makes me to buy from him, the prices are half of hlj, and 5,5 times of spain, so.. this is the reason, but anyway... his shipping method is horrible

Tonioseven, I have to speak out for sangpolly here. I must have bought around 20 kits from her and have never seen one wrapped in just green paper. She always form a protective outer box from polystyrene sheets. I have never had one with any damage and if you read the feedback left for her, it all says the same as me. I too have had dealings with ryuluk and would always advise not to buy from him, although it is a little difficult to keep track of him.

Here's my experience purchasing kits online. HLJ sometimes takes time but their packaging is the best. HobbySearch I think is good too but never bought 1/24 kits so I don't know.
I avoid buying from an overseas ebayer but I did buy one kit from sangpolly. It took some time to arrive. The kit was wrapped in paper with styrofoam inside and tied around like a gift. The kit was not damaged but she could improve a lot on packaging.

She always form a protective outer box from polystyrene sheets. I have never had one with any damage and if you read the feedback left for her, it all says the same as me. I too have had dealings with ryuluk and would always advise not to buy from him, although it is a little difficult to keep track of him. I totally agree for standing up for her; only recently have I received a damaged product but I will definitely buy from her again!

Hey, don't worry about the reputation of HK sellers. I don't think one bad apple has ruined the bunch for me. I have no problems buying from a foreign seller again, I'll just make sure to check feedback on them next time.
Thanx
