Crankshaft position sensor?

My 2002 Grand Prix has been bogging out with absolute eratic rpm's...at times at 0 despite driving for miles at 60mph. Trac off light keeps coming on, a couple times it wouldn't start when I would turn it off to run in somewhere and the "service engine soon" light comes on now and again. After research, it appears that it could be my crankshaft position sensor. Unfortunately, my almighty Haynes manual doesn't even list this part and I have no clue where to look or what I'm looking for. Can't even find pics online. Any suggestions? :runaround:

First thing is go and see the code for the check engine light. Auto part stores do it for free. Don't just guess its that part.

From what I understand it is Front of engine above crankshaft pulley.

Ok...never had to do that before. What do I do with the code once I get it? Not exactly a mechanic here, but prefer to do this myself, ya know?! :naughty:

Once you get the code or codes post them here and someone will help you with an interpretation and what you should expect in the way of doing repairs.
