Orifice Tube r/r

Hello:

2000 GP SE 3.8 L, VIN K, 205K+miles

I have read all past posts with orifice tube in the title ( I think). I know where it is located. I know the air box, abs module and master cylinder have to be moved.

What I would like to know has anyone done this operation successfully w/o removing the vacuum brake booster? If so, any tricks you may have learned that you can relay this way.

The compressor is leaking, verified with tracing dye. The replacement compressor warranty calls for replacing the accumulator (easy r/r) and the orifice tube. I also think it would be a good idea to change these based on age and mileage. Plan to keep vehicle at least another 100k. This car is strong as hog's breath.

Enjoy the balance of the weekend.

I've replaced/rebuilt a couple hundred V-5 compressors on "W" cars like yours- and NEVER replaced the OT--if you want the warranty on your car-buy their OT and not replace it-- you won't find anything in it (like debris) because your compressor you say failed due to a leak....there is absolutely no need to open up that joint or to even look at that funky style OT...

BTW - I reseal those leaky V-5s using a seal kit and a new shaft seal.. works like a champ.

bcridd,Thank you for the reply and tips. With the amount of mileage and age I would rather replace the compressor, accumulator and orifice tube while the system is open. I do not see the car often as it is in New England. Any tips, from anyone, on my original question concerning the Orifice tube r/r and the removal of the brake booster.
