when replacing the ac compressor , the rear mounting bracket need be slightly loosened , prior to torquing down the rear compressor studs fully. then tighten the rear bracket bolt.

the front mounting bolts should be lightly torqued , until the rear hardware is torqued.

what I found is the rear support bracket may not properly hold the compressor properly, causing stress to occur , that will over time , cause the compressor seals to blow. when this occurs all the refrigerent oil will blow out , and the compressor will seize up.

when I installed the new compressor , I observed that the rear bracket now had a space between the rear of the compressor , and the bracket.

when installing new O rings lube them with refrigerent mineral oil 525. this is just for these O rings , not to be placed in the system. the use of PAG oil can damage these from sealing properly.

the mineral oil was used in the old R12 systems. GM OEM MANUAL states only to use this type for the O rings/gaskets rubber seals.

the orifice tube O ring , I used pag oil , since it is in the refrigerent flow .

hopefully I will get another 17 years before this will need replacing again. not an easy job to do.
