:grinyes:Howdy all!
Think I messed up the CV Boots, see attached. This is the case on both sides of the front end :crying:
I think it was from driving on pavement in 4X4. I was in town, and spinning a turn, when I felt what I think was the front end binding. I noticed I was in 4 wheel, dumb mistake. I think this is what caused the problem.
So, what do I do now??? I called a local mechanic i trust, and he said the whole CV Boot will need to be replaced.
Is that true?
What cost should I expect, or find to be unreasonable?
Can I drive it 8 miles to that repair shop, or have it towed?
Other alternative ideas?
Bumbed for sure, but hope ya'll can help!
I'm a :loser: :grinyes:

Yes. [edit: we are talking 'cv boot' here and not 'cv joint' right? ]

The boot is there to keep water & grit out and grease in.
If your 8 miles is relatively clean and dry - then yes, drive it.
You could wrap the split with a plastic bag and tie it off with zip ties if you're worried.
Other alternative ideas?
If you are a competent DIYer you could fix it. You'll find various how-to's on the web. If not, go to the mechanic you trust

Just saw your eidt. Not sure about cv boot vs cv joint. See attched pic, that's about all I know. I discovered the problem backing up, and I heard loud metalic clunking noise. It did not make that noise going forward.
I'm trying to take it in today for repair. Anyone know about how much I might cost????
Getting the plugs changed out also.
The truck has been running great, I do regular maitenance onbit that i learned here on this forum
