Bmw v10 ecu

Has anyone here had any experience of using a BMW V10 in anything other than a BMW.
I am specifically looking for information on making the engine electrics believe it is still sitting comfortably in an M5/6.
Failing that any experience of using aftermarket ECU's in place of the OEM product.
