I have a 2000 Silveraldo 5.3L, with 301000km

The truck is going faster then the speedometer, in fact the speedometer is showing about 12 to 15 km slower then the actual speed.

I have ordered a Vehicle Speed Sensor to install.

The truck is not showing any codes at all.

Could I have a different problem.

the speed sensor will output the rotation rpm. if this is not correct then it would indicate the wrong sized tires. tires larger than the OEM designed size will cause this. the PCM can be programed to indicate the correct speed.

what sized tires on this ? I have OEM LT245 75 R16..........

Yes I have 246 75 16 tires, and they are brand new.

what was on there before ?
the PCM will need programing.

how did you determine this error. at what speed is the speedo off 12KM ?

The old tires were the same size, 245 75 16.

I figured I may have had a problem when my wife got a speeding ticket, for going 117km in a 80km zone.

Now I know for a fact that my wife does not speed, in her 30 years of driving she has never had a ticket of any kind, yet alone a speeding ticket.

I then went out with her and she drove our Suburban at 100 and I drove the pick up right beside her and the speedometer was reading between 80 to 85 km.

thanks.

so how long did you own this vehicle ? did you have any work done recently to it that involved the PCM ?

your vehicle has 3 speed sensors and they must all agree or you will get the ABS light to come on. the common component would be PCM and the instrument cluster. with first recalibrating the PCM , this will most likely correct this error.

post back with the details on what was done to correct the error. this vehicle does not have these errors normally . the 2004-5 years do have these problems.

I have owed this vehicle for the past two years, and the previous owner is a very good friend of mine and he has owned it since it was brand new.

I have spoke with my friend (previous owner) and he never had any issues that he was aware of.

I had had the ABS light come on and I had to replace the front wheel bearings (hubs) and that corrected that problem, and that was about 6 to 8 months ago.

I have actually checked my speeds with my GPS on my phone and according to my phone and my speedometer, the truck is going 18km per hour faster then the speedometer.

I cant really afford to take it to a shop, but i guess im gonna have to. I was hoping to get the problem solved and take the old part, and the receipt for the new part to court with my wife and hopefully get the case dismissed or at least get the fine reduced a little.

I would like to know how this can happen with out someone reprograming the pcm for the different sized tires.

wheel hubs will give the abs light to come on because of front sensors not producing the correct speed as the tranny and other front sensor. same is true if the tranny sensor goes wrong and does not match the front sensors.

then again it maybe the dash display module which does have circuits.

some have puchased programers to change shift points/speedo and also change other PCM software settings.

diablo programers do have this ability

Vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is a kind of evaluate that decides how quick your wheel is spinning when your boosting on the highway. It is very good and also important part of your vehicle especially good when you are on the way.
