Swap or Turbo

I have a 97' spyder gs ( yes gs) and of course there isn't much power there so I want to go with a stage 2 turbo for around $3,000 + install, but my friend want me to swap a stratus engine into it. What should I do and where could I go to compare prices on turbo kits?

whats so special about a Stratus engine? its smaller than the one you have now.
anyway Ill go with the Turbo Kit, your 2.4L will like that
and the install is not that hard, just get the right tools, and it will be a nice weekend job( actually like 6hrs)

You have a 4G64, a mitsu engine. The exhaust manifold off a turbo eclipse will fit your car. You could get almost all the parts off a junked car.

the stratus has a 2.0l non-turbo engine that either IS or similar to a 420a motor. Your only gonna spend more money to get less out of your car. If you don't have too many miles and your engine isn't too badly abused, turbo it, but if it is, do some repair first so it lasts longer.

Let me make this perfectly clear. Spyder Eclipses do not have 420As, They have 4g64's. Way different engines.

i never said it did, i said the stratus has a 420a motor or something like it.

hey well if you do , do the stage 2 turbo kit , remember that you can only run 7psi which is the LIMIT , dont go anywhere over that

the 420a engine sucks! (if your not very DSMish thats the engine you have) and if your gonna think about swapping the motor , its gonna TAKE ALOT of time and $$$$ to do that......

put it like this , i have never seen a 4g63 engine where a 420a came from

if you wanna go turbo , keep your gs or sell it , and buy a 1g turbo model DSM , be ALOT cheaper than trying to make your N/A go turbo.....

thats just my .02 though....

ok I looked and I do have a 4G64 engine, but how do I go about making it a turbo or stage 2 turbo? and is 7 psi the maximum amout I can run with my engine?

He said Gs, but meant spyder, look at the listed vehicle in his profile.

I would say buy a turbo'd car, alot less hassle

I'd go with dropping a first generation eclipse engine in because they are stronger engines. This way when you turbo charge it you can run higher psi and you won't damage your motor, it'll be more money but in the long run you won't be replacing as many parts.

Go to Hahn racecraft if you're intent is to turbo your motor.

He owns a Prelude of course he doesn't know what hes talking about:rolleyes:

The Hahn/Star kits are nice if you only want to run 6psi or so.

I havent heard much on 6-bolt swaps into the n/t 2G's, I know my friend is interested in it. But he might go with a rebuilt 420A and a Hahn/Star kit and run upwards of 20psi

If you're really serious about putting a turbo on your spyder then checkout www.magnusmotorsports.com they sell rebuilt 4G64's with all you'll need to make it run from 400 to 800+ HP. I got my engine from them and it kicks ass.

Ok if your so smart, why wouldn't you drop in an already turboed 1G motor then?

Have you seen a 1G turbo engine bay compared to a 2G n/t engine bay?

So you work with turbo and jap cars, when was the last time you worked on a DSM? Obvioulsy not lately, get your facts staright before you post:loser:

So you've been doing this for 23 years eh? Good thing your profile says your birthday is March 24th, 1985 :loser: :loser: Good thing you called me the kid :thefinger Can you say keyboard kowboy?
