Seeing double

I was in the process of taking off my mirrors to see if I could add in mirror turn signals and discovered that on my drivers side I seemed to have two mirrors, with one glued onto the other.

The "external" mirror also had a small harness going to what seems to be the perimeter of the mirror. Underneath I did find that what seems to be the original glass has the word "HEATED" on it. The original mirror doesn't seem to be in bad shape (just a bit of adhesive around the outside edge) so I'm wondering why one was glued over it, but may have just been a previous owner.

I'm wondering if, 1) Since my rear view mirror is auto dimming, would the driver side mirror be auto dimming as well?, and 2) Does anyone know if the heated function is triggered by anything so I could force it on and test to see if I in fact do have heated mirrors as an option.

There was a factory option for an auto-dimming side mirror. It works in conjunction with the on/off of the auto-dimming rear-view mirror.

You can trigger the heated function of the side-view mirrors by turning on the rear defrost.

I would say you have heated side-view mirrors, and an auto-dimming driver's side mirror.
