I am going to touch up the plastic painted parts on the interior of my 08 Silverado crew cab,the pieces around the power window switches, the gauges, door pull handles and steering wheel. Most parts are pretty straight foreward in removing but the ones I am having difficulty in finding the proper way to take off are the 2 pieces on either side of the steering wheel centre.I can't tell if there's screws on the back side or if they are just held in place with retaining clips. Can someone shed some light here?I'd really rather have these parts off to do the prep and painting.

I like to practice on salvage cars, you might want to check out your local salvage yard.

the plastic/leather uses dye. I have purchased dye for my vinyl and leather here http://www.LeatherWorldTech.com .

using spray paint is in most cases not compatible. the use of WATER BASED DYES IS THE CORRECT PRODUCT.

I did my dash and leather seats using these dyes. also you must follow the proper prep proceedure to ensure this is going to last.

my dash was turning from gray to brown . after several years it still looks like new 1996 impala.

The parts I am looking to touch up seem to me have paint on the because it's rubbing off from being scratched by fingers ie power window buttons or rubbed off on the 2 pieces on the sides of the steering wheel.Either way dye or paint I still need to know how to take the steering wheel pieces off without breaking something or setting off the air bag.As far as practicing on wrecked vehicles that isn't an option around here.

if this is an original GM part not screwed with , then the colorant is a dye. this is why painting can be a issue with coming off and peeling. all coatings paint/dye will wear off over time esp. if your hands are dirty with soils/abrasives.

on the removal of the wheel coverings this you should try to get an answer by renaming your question to specificly get an answer to this[wheel] removal.

I have dyed the steering wheel vinal on other vehicles with good results. reason is it is dye. comes in a bottle. can be applied with a spray carteridge ,brush, or with a cloth material. with not using a spray no need to break down these parts.
