2000 sierra clock/shifter panel flashing/clicking on startup

my truck just started to do this today. when i start, the clock and shifter panel blink/flash for about 20 sec. it also clicks when its flashing.....it makes the same sound as the turn signal. any suggestions? is it a fuse? maybe a switch?

any suggestons? its the whole gauge cluster that flashes. i was told maybe the cluster is going bad??

There have been several problems with the cluster on these trucks, although I have not seen the condition that you are describing. The clicking, is it the same speed as the turnsignal, or just the same noise and erratic?

it sounds just like the turn signal, and clicks at the same speed. everything works in the dash, just the dashlights flash/click. it goes away after a min or two and only happens when i start engine, or turn the key to on position. Im thinking the bcm might be going bad, or a bad ground somewhere?

I would lean more towards a module, since it happens the same way all the time, then corrects itself. Would need a schematic to see what these have in common.

sounds more like the multi function switch, my roomate has an 01 sierra and his does the same thing only without the clock flashing

i have also noticed that the four ways flash outside, but not on the dash. also, i can hear the clicking noise under the hood comming from the horn fuse that is on the driver side. like i said a min later everything is fine till i start the truck again and it repeats. Any other suggestions?? im gonna look into the multifunction switch.

i would look at the wires to make sure none have the insulation burnt off or have wires fused together

Well I did some tinkering under the steeringwheel where the clicking noise was comming from and discovered it comming from the aftermarket auto start. Unplugged it and so far my problem has went away......thanks 4 the info guys
