Installing Hood Pins.

Well just got some hood pins today (for free) so I decided I might as well install them. Now I know the basic idea of how to do it, but the hood is where im stuck. Since when you open up the hood (or bonnet for all those UK peeps) it doesnt go straight up (yea no shit) so how should I drill the hole? Should I drill it directly straight or should I put it at a angle? Thanks

Ok, I drilled through the underside of the hood, but didnt actually drill through the top of the hood yet. Should I drill down through the top of the hood, or up through the bottom of the hood?

Down

You drill up through the bottom.. How are you going to be able to tell if you're drilling from the top!?

Is there any reason why you're putting hood pins on? Is it the "race look" that some other guy was talking about in his earlier post!?

The reason I put them on is pretty much just because I thought they would look good, and to me they do look pretty good so im happy. My friend just put his on his prelude for 30 bucks. So I just saved myself 30 bucks. And if anyone doesnt like it, its cool.

What's the actual purpose of hood pins? Are they supposed to be an easy way to yank the hood off the car or something?

well im the nice guy that gave him the hood pins for free :D..... hood pins are made to secure ur hood when u get a light-weight carbon fiber or fiberglass one so it doesnt fly open at high speeds. With ur stock heavy ass metal hood they do absolutely nothing but look kinda cool.

So you attach two metal rods to the chasis, drill two holes in the hood and then close the hood over the "rods" and then insert a pin into the rod to keep it closed? (just trying to get the idea of it)

thanks man

I use them to secure my CF hood down because its too light for a stock latch, and it flaps in the wind a lot.
On older cars they used to put 4 pins in all corners of an aftermarket hood so they could easily take them all out and just lift the hood right off.

no, well yea, but a lil' more to it.. I think therez sposed to be some wires .. not wires, but some sort of metal threaded wire attached to hood pin to somewhere else.. i dunno, somin like that. Never had any, but i've seen em' on them carbon fiber hoods at car shows. Some one else that knows plz explain.. But u get the idea. :)

Is it just me or does anyone else hate these "import" style hood pins. I like the old muscle car style ones that have actual pins that you remove, I don't like the sliding kind, looks too big. But no one ever has the muscle car ones on imports.

I like these pins ... they look cool

the tightest ones ive seen are the ones on h4bangins hood ... they open with one of those circulr type keys you see on vending machines.

I think those are hook locks. They are a little more inconspicuous. I would get them.

And Melt here is that pic I was telling you about...
