2007 BMW Fuel Pump Diagnosis/Replacement

Think that the fuel pump or fuel pump relay needs replacing. Vehicle turns over but doesnt crank. Non BMW mechanic listened for fuel pump noise but stated that he couldn't hear ir and suggested replacing the fuel pump. He said that he looked up the repair steps and that he'd need to remove all types of stuff to replace it. I need to know the diagnosis and repair steps for both the relay and pump... if there is an illustrated guide that would be VERY helpful.
