I am getting a PS whine at startup at anything below about 60 degrees outside. it lasts about 3-4 minutes, even just at idle.
Everyone said to change or clean the screen in the PS resivoir. So i did that and it definitely isnt restricted, cleaned it real good and flushed about 2-3 quarts of the old fluid out and added new atf-4.
Problem still persists after that, not sure what to do. Is it possible the pump is shot, even though all noise goes away after 3-4 minutes?

Is the assist affected while it's noisy?

Exalted, possibly air in the system? Do you think an additive would help? Since it goes away rather quickly it is probably not a serious problem. I've heard more than a few do this of various makes and models.

My 2003 Grand Caravan was doing the same. Seems the previous owner put in some generic power steering fluid instead of the recommended ATF+4. So here's what I did...I got a turkey baster, sucked out as much PS fluid as possible from the reservoir and refilled with ATF+4. Now it's quiet as a mouse.
Cheers,
Joe

I've heard that sometimes you can't really get the screen clean.
