Adding factory keyless entry to 2000 Malibu?

Anyone know what I'd need to add remote keyless entry to my wife's new-to-her 2000 Malibu? It has power locks, but no remote. Because of her disability it would be helpful to have the remote locks, but we don't want to spend a lot of money getting an aftermarket kit installed. We would really prefer to stay with factory stuff "just because." :)
A bit of reading elsewhere seemed to indicate that there was a module that is installed under the package shelf in the rear. Anyone know if this is accurate, and if so what the GM part number would be for that module? There are several on eBay listed for 2001+ Malibus, but I can't find anything listed for the '00. Obviously we'd also need the remote fobs as well and finding everything together would be best, but I don't mind piecing it together if I can find out what's required.
Thanks for any info!
Brent

Think aftermarket would be a lot cheaper......

My understanding is that the factory module plugs into an existing wiring harness. Modules I saw for '01+ on eBay were around $40, then add on a fob or two and grand total should be under $100 without hacking up factory wiring and only a few minutes total time investment. I don't have time to mess around with an aftermarket kit, which means paying someone else to do it to the tune of $175+ based on quotes I got from the two shops in town that do that type of work.
Nutshell: definitely want to go with factory parts, but thanks for the input. :)

Well, hopefully I've managed to answer my own question with more creative Googling than previously attempted. Here's a compilation of the info I turned up, shared in case anyone else with a 2000 Malibu is looking for this same info.
Receiver module (mounted under package tray):
GM PN = 15732806
FCC ID = K0BUT1XR / KOBUT1XR
Remote entry key fob:
GM PN = 25678792
FCC ID = K0BUT1BT / KOBUT1BT
Found everything I needed on eBay for a total of $60 shipped ($25 for the module; $35 for a pair of fobs). If all goes as expected, I should only need to plug in the module, then program the fobs. I'll try to remember to update this post after I receive the parts and get them installed.
Cheers,
Brent

Well, possible bad news. Got home tonight and crawled into the Malibu's trunk and can find no sign of anything that looks like a connector for this module under the package shelf. Anyone know where it's located if it's going to be there at all? Don't want to start ripping the whole car apart trying to find it. :(

Crimestopper has what you want for $30- just wire it in to run the locks..much much easier and longer range on remotes- plus you can flash parking lights and sound horn if you want to.

Doesn't look plug-n-play to me, and as I said I simply don't have time to wire a system up myself. But thanks!

The connector may be there, just taped to a harness up above the package shelf, you may need to pull the package tray to find it. It's the trim behind the rear seat back between the seat back and the rear window.

Ah, okay. I'll have to figure out how to pull the package tray. I noticed the seat bolsters (or whatever you would call them -- the sections on the sides) seem to lock into a slot on the back side. Didn't spend a lot of time studying it but it looks like those need to come out before the package shelf can be removed. Maybe it'll be obvious when I start looking at it more closely, but any tips to give me a head start? :)
Thanks,
Brent

There are two retainers below the ft of the rear seat cushion, one on the left and one on the right, you will see a slot, use a flat bladed screwdriver in the slot to push and release the retainers, then lift the cushion out. The seat back is has two bolt on the bottom, remove those, then lift the seat back straight up to release the retainers in the back.

Well, I got the seat removed and got the package shelf loose enough to get a good look/feel around in there (and lost about six pounds of skin in the process) and there's definitely no connector for the wireless entry module. Guess I'll be putting a complete keyless entry system up on eBay soon. Damn.... :(

I highly recommend this company. Put one on my dodge yrs ago. It started acting crazy, contacted the company. Sent them the keyless remotes, and control module. No charge. Their lifetime warranty is just that. http://www.crimestopper.com/

Thanks for the recommendations. I'm not going to install anything myself that's not plug-n-play. Simply don't have the time. If we decide to go with keyless entry, I'll farm it out to one of the shops in town. For $150 or so installed, it's not worth the hassle to mess around with it myself.

I know there were plug and play options, for GM cars, but they varied greatly, especially by model/year.....what you should have done was see what years they applied to before buying those components....any GM Parts Dept. would be able to tell you......
I have done this for remote start systems(which includes the power locks), on newer vehicles......but they don't work across the board all the same......you have to check with the Parts Dept. first....
Actually, some of those aftermarket systems are easy to install......especially, just for remote door locks.....just provide power and ground to the module, and then one or two wires come out of the module and can be attached to any power door lock switch, or at the BCM.......it is very simple.....

What I should have done was look to see if the pigtail was there or not, but at the price I paid there was little to lose by buying first and asking questions later. Don't think I'm going to lose money when I resell the stuff. The components I bought are correct for the year; it's just the wiring that's missing, which isn't something any GM Parts Dept. would have been able to tell me.

I'm sure they're easy to install with a few simple tools, a wiring diagram and plenty of spare time, but "simple" isn't the same as plug-n-play, which is the only option I have time to mess with. I appreciate all the suggestions, I really do, but I'm not sure how I could be any clearer that I'm simply not going to mess with anything requiring wiring. (It's not that I can't handle the tasks involved. It's that I just don't have the time. And even if I had the time, for the $100 difference between buying the parts myself or paying for a kit with installation, there's no way I'm going to crawl around on my back under the dash tracing wires and pulling panels.)
Thanks again for the help. :)

Should get the list of RPO codes for your car....usually a SPID label is on the spare tire cover or underside or rear trunk lid.....
You may find that the option is already in the car.....when cars exchange hands, sometimes the key fob gets lost, and all you are given are the keys.....if the car has Keyless Entry option on the SPID label, all you need is to buy the CORRECT remote and have it programmed.....and hopefully the system works....
