1994 Ford Explorer 4.0L

My friends 2004 4.0L Explorer when the heat is turned on it sounds like the blend door is moving to the stop both ways. Do these have a controller for the vacuum operated blend door actuator or is the door electrically operated just banging. No heat is coming out of the vents. She asked me to fix it but am waiting on my foot to heal before checking it out.
