I bought this kit on the way home from work. It was an impulse buy.
Everything looks fine except those cheap looking wheels. They do not belong on an EVO8. What was Fujimi thinking?

I will start working on the mold lines tonight so the thread belongs here.

hope your not too disapointed.. most of the parts are from the evo vii fujumi has.

man.. has fujuimi gotten really cheap with the wheels??

or are those stock steelies on a RS evo8?

Every "RS" version of Fujimi got that set of wheels. Therefore advise is do not buy a "RS" version of Fujimi... wait till they release the decals set then you will be satisfied ;)

In fact on the real thing, Evo RS do come with those rims. By looking at the box, it already show it come with those rims. Never mind, keep it or low down your model with those rim. I think it will look alright... If not, you have spend some $$$ on a new set of rims again.:(

the wheels look crap on the box ! don't expect better !

Guys, I think the whole point of the steelies in real life was cost cutting.
Mitsubishi figured most people who bought the car would replace the factory alloys with aftermarket rims anyway, so they give you steel wheels, in order to lower the cost of the car. Honda did it with a version of the CTR as well.

Rtuned & Trueno are right, the real RS come with those steel wheels. Here is a picture I found.

Can you believe that I did not pay attention to the wheels on the box when I bought it? :( :o I guess it was because I had a long day at work.
Those rims have to go. Any recommendations?
I have these in mind. Are they good quality? I am asking just to make sure I do not make another mistake buying Fujimi stuff.
The car will be painted in gold.

Forget about the Advan RG 17in. After you put in this rim, the car will look like Ride-height. Get something like....
Enkei NT03, OZ Racing Nova, WorkMeister, TE37, Verus EU, RE Amamiya AW-7, Model 5, Kranze Shoki, Advan TCII, Andrew Goltdish, Andrew Racing Dish....etc. These are most of the biggest rim you could find in Fujimi list. I had no idea how's the Work Euroliner SUV look.
Or Aoshima Rims mostly fit to your need. ;)

I think the car would look good with some nice 5 Spoke rims :smoka:

Do you want those stock rims? I would be glad to take them off your hands

Cychalen

Thanks for the recommendations.
How do you know how big the rims are? Do manufacturers show it on the box or you have to open the box to know?

Cychalen

Jonno, I am keeping those steel wheels so I can use them on old model cars. They should look good on them. ;)

I am going to get some wheels tomorrow so any ideas/comments are appreciated.

There a car specialist model shop in Singapore that actually can look at the rims before buying it. :D That's why I know.:p

You are lucky to be able to see the goods before buying them. Here the boxes are all sealed. There is only one store that let's me see what's inside before buying, but he does not carry wheels.:(
I keep seeing on this board that WorkMeister is very good so I will get this one for sure.
I could not find pictures of Verus EU or Advan TCII. Anyone here have these wheels that ca n show me?
Thanks.

Does this kit need to be lowered or does Fujimi give you the option of lowering it with spacers? I really like the aggressive look of the Evo 8, I might grab one soon.

Yes. Most of the Fujimi kits need to lower down, unless you got some 19in or bigger rims on it. :D

It looks really good on your Evo 6. Should look good on a Evo 8. :D

I think the wheels I got are all 18in. I could not find 19in wheels where I went.

Scrapped the idea of a gold EVO 8 after the incident with the gold Porsche 928 S4.
A first coat of red was applied to the body before I saw Pman's red Evo 8. You can still see a trace of red on the inside if you look carefully. Scrapped the idea too because I know that mine will look really bad compared to Pman's paint job. In the end I chose metallic black.
Here it is after 4 coats of metallic black and 3 coats of clear. The white you see on on the rear door is a reflection of metallic particles.

What do you do on a hot and dry summer afternoon? :dunno: Modeling! :thinkerg:

I let the body dry for a week, but still can't get a shine after polishing. I guess it is not completely dry yet.

I could not wait to see how it looks like on WorkMeister wheels so here is a fit test.

Completed the underside of the car. Nothing interesting really.

Have you tried a food dehydrator for faster drying? It works wonders. BTW, your Evo 8 is coming along nicely.

Looks very good.

But I find that the WorkMeister rims on evo 7 & 8 doesn't look very nice, it looks much better on the evo 5 & 6.

Here it is.
I destroyed the tiny "Lancer" decal that is supposed to go on the left side of the trunk.

Awsome job man! :bigthumb:
The paint came up nice.
As for the steelies, the mitsi RS came out with steel rims, no A/C, no electric windows and rally specced differentials Purely because the RS is the rally spec, therefore it was made for the small rally teams to buy and then strip it down ready for rally prepping.
Helps when my clients is Mitsubishi New Zealand
