After 10 days waiting for the paint to dry on my Porsche GT 2 and an hour compounding, my paint job was looking great until when i started removing compound from the panel lines and the paint flaked off in two different areas, quite small but you can see them.
ok, just wondered what ideas you guys could give me to fix the problem without having to mask and spray. Since there's still a bit of TS 23 left in the can, thought id try and drain it out and hand paint the two areas that are now white. If i do this can i thin it with Humbrol enamel thinners bla bla bla !!!
Open to any suggestions.
Later, Mike.:) :) :)

Hey Mike,
Couldnt tell you why the paint flaked like that but on the subject of mixing Humbrol enamels thinner with TS laquer I dont think it would be adviced. Most guys here will tell you to stick with same brand thinner and paint. You might find they wont mix well. So you might be better trying to get your habds on some Tamiya Thinners.
If there is paint still left in the can why dont you sand the area and re- spray? How did you remove the compound from the panel lines? Was it a knive and was it a new blade? if so you might have been to rough and caught the paint causing the chipping.

Alright,
It was actually a toothpick, thats the surprising thing.
Just another quick question......if i do respray those tiny areas, how long do i wait before i remove the masking tape ?
Cheers, mike:spam2:

Strange that its a tootpick that did the damage, the paint should have been dry alright. Only think I can think of is because the paint was on a 'high spot' it would have come off quite easy. My suggestion would be to use a tootbrush or a soft bruch to get rid of the compound residue. If you do decide to mask and spray when you respray remove the masking tape as soon as the paint 'looks' dry. Obviously if you take it off while still wet it will run but if you leave it to long as you peel the tape off the paint will come with it. I would say leave it about an hour and it should be ok to remove it all though I will stand corrected on that.

Now P-man its not big or clever laughing at someone elses afflictions, even if they are a scum supporter LOL....NO NO NO seriously we have to stop this now.
P-man if he does a touch up does he have to thin the paint after its taken from the can? or will its own thinners be enough?

Maybe something stayed behind when you cleaned it before you painted it. Sanding residue, soap. Then when you ran the toothpick thru it, it loosened it and took some paint with it. Bummer. Maybe dab a bit of paint on the spot, I've done it before and while it bugs the hell out of me, it may not be too noticible to someone else

While logged into AF, click "profile" in the upper right of your screen. Then select the "edt options" tab. You will find Avatars listed at the bottom of this page, with a link to change it. Pretty simple from there.
Good luck with the touch up!

I just hate removing compound residue from panel lines! Though what happened to you hasn't happened to me yet. I hope it doesn't. Good luck on your touch up. :D

I hate anything to do with panel lines, considering doing every car black in the future !!!
No not really but it would be a way to escape them (panel lines)altogether. Im just unexperienced, still trying to fathem out the best way to do them. Have some Gunze panel line pens which i usually use but gonna try the watery paint running down the lines thingy soon.
