I have search the HONDA forums and can find nothing relative to my problem with my 2006 ODYSSEY Touring navigation system. Recently purchased the vehicle, & had concerns that the GPS data was out of date. Pulled the DVD & it was dated 2005. Borrowed a current DVD to see if the upgrade included my areas. It was a COPY of version 6.9A. The disc failed to load. Would end with screen, "Please check your disc". OK, that didn't work, but THEN the old version 6.31 would not load either. I am now stuck with NO GPS, Audio controls (on screen), or BACK UP CAMERA; and my compass does not work either.
Ordered online a "refurbished" disc for V.6.92. Following instructions to turn ignition switch to ON & insert disc for it to load resulted in it going to the Progress Bar, indicating it was, indeed, loading. However there was on onscreen WARNING message that said "Do not turn the engine off". Thinking that the engine needed to be running (for whatever reason) & without turning the switch to OFF, I cranked the engine. That apparently interrupted the data loading, and the system went to the "Please check your disc" again. Many subsequent attempts have also ended in the "check disc" screen.
I have disconnected the battery for about an hour to hopefully reset the nav. system, but it made no difference. Anyone experienced this problem? ...and know how to get the v.6.92 to load??

OK... no response to this post 5 months ago. ANYONE WITH SIMILAR PROBLEM... here's what I have slowly been able to determine: (1) Once you insert an up-date DVD and begin the upload, you can not go back to the older version map data DVD - it is history. (2) When uploading NEW map data - for whatever reason - the ENGINE should be running (maybe to keep a charge to the battery). (3) DO NOT crank the engine while the data is uploading - it will cause a POWER SURGE and "fry" a chip, and the unit is "dead". No number of RE-SETS will fix it.
My local Honda Dealer referred me to a local Automobile Audio Shop, who checked the DVD disc drive under the driver's seat; called the manufacture to determine the problem; would need to be sent to the manufacturer (Alpine) for repair, at a cost of $570.00.
Took it to the Honda Dealer in Aberdeen NC, who estimated replacement costs at $2,648.00. :nono:
UNITED RADIO in E. Syracuse NY will repair - if you ship direct to them - for $470.00 with a 1 year warranty. Was quoted on the phone $350, but when item was received they called me with the $470 quote. :screwy:
ALPINE ELECTRONICS of AMERICA will repair - if you ship the DVD unit to them - for $358, but no warranty.
