ive been having problems with this piece of &%@% for about 6 months and two different mechanics. it started out as a overheat problem which we seem to have fixed. now at an idle, it likes to shake your insides loose. after getting to about 1500 rpm it smooths out. coming off the line, its terrible gutless. the last mechanic i took it to said the wires going to the air idle motor were melted together. they fixed the wires but it still runs bad. a new motor was quoted as $400. i hate to spend any more money on this thing if this isnt going to help. i dont even know what a air idle motor is. are there any other names this thing could be called? does this thing sound like it could be causing my problem.? thanx.

Idle Motor - Idle Air Control Valve. (IACV)
That would have no effect on your shaking or lack of power off the line. It only controls your idle speed.
Do you have a check engine light on? Does the light work? (comes on when the key is turned to the on position)
Your shaking indicates a week or misfiring cylinder. What kind of spark plugs are in the car and when was the last time they were changed or inspected? You should only run NGK Platinum tip plugs. They are expensive, but last for 60K miles. If somebody put regular plugs in your car, they probably have been burnt up by now. That would account for your poor idle and lack of power.
Other things to check for is a dirty throttle body - www.motorvate.ca has a nice write up on how to clean this yourself. (5 bucks for a can of cleaner) Defective PCV valve (under 10 bucks at any auto parts store) or a dirty fuel filter or injectors.
I'd check the plugs first. Perhaps another mechanic is in order as well.

dude you shouldn't curse ur maxima that way, they have the a really reliable engine, however you fuck with the engine and the engine will definitely fuck with you. do what njmax suggests, check the spark plugs maybe they are fried and check the cylinders...
anyways good luck man your going to need it
