Hi all..I am new to the site and am looking for some advise. I have an 89 escort with an automatic and when it is cold, it doesn't want to shift through the gears. After you warm it up, everything works great. I have changed the filter but didn't seem to help. Any advise will be greatly appreciated..thank you...dew70

Welcome to AF!!
It sounds like you could have some sticking valve body components and solenoids. Add a can of Seafoam transmission additive to the transmission and see if that helps. It if is gummed up that will remove the gum from the valve body and should help it to shift better.

As noted, you may have sticking valves in the valve body. However, there are NO solenoids in your transmission, so there is no way that you have any sticking solenoids.

Sorry for the solenoid information. I am more in tune to the newer transmissions that are electronically controlled.
