Doing a quick build of Fujimi's new kit with Gulf livery inspired by the Gulf Marine McLaren 12C.
First I painted it with Finisher's Gulf Blue then masked the curved areas with Micron Masking Tape .4mm

Next I filled in with Tamiya tape.

Here it has been sprayed with Hiroboy Gulf Orange.

A couple hours of masking, good practice for some F1 liveries I'll be doing later, and luckily no leaks after spraying on a mix of Tamiya TS15 and TS55. I'm pleased with the design.

Brian - that's some nice masking and paint work -I know what paints are you using, but is it from the paint can or do you decant and airbrush? Thanks - John

Thanks!
It's all airbrushed. You can do paint jobs like this from the can but you're going to have more tape bleed issues... and build the paint edges too high because of too much paint going on.
It can be done but with an airbrush the control you have and chances for successful paint sessions is raised exponentially.
Thanks!

That's what I thought, but I just wanted to confirm your method - I also airbrush my work using Zero paints or decanted Tamiya TS paints - I always use Zero 2K for the finish - I do not use Tamiya TS clears and have had no problems ever. - John

Thank you!
I have used a few decals from various sheets which I have collected over the years as well as a couple from the Goodsmile sheet.
The main Gulf decals and 007 etc. are from Colorado Decals Aston Martin DBR9 sheet.

Got interior assembled after some mild detailing.
Top of dash sprayed with Faux Fabrix to create fuzzy non-glare look. Switches and buttons painted with various colors of Acryl paint. Used blue seat belt decals.

Brian - is Black the correct color for this inside? just asking because I don't have a good interior reference picture and I'm also going to build a BMW GT3 - I was thinking of either using white or a light gray for my interior so that it would be easier to see the detail of the inside, and only some black like for the dash. Yours looks good though. Also was that the Scale Motorsports faux fabrix paint? - Thanks - John

If you're building the kit as the stock anime version the instructions say to paint it white.
If you're doing a phantom or fantasy build such as I am you use any color you like.
Yes, Faux Fabrix is made by Scale Motorsport.
Here's a couple interior shots:

Getting down to final assembly and running into big problems with the kit.
The wheels on all four corners stick out 3mm too far so the tires are not tucked inside the fenders. There's no way to fix this without cutting plastic. The brakes in the stock fitting position fit horribly anyway.
Secondly, had to chop the windows apart because the one piece shell doesn't fit well at all.
Disappointing flaws in an otherwise decent kit.
Fujimi strikes again.

sad to read this Brian.Unfortunately fujimi kits looks nice but always need a lot of dry fittings.
Hope u can save this too nice model, and hope the porsche gt3r will not have similar dramatic problems (nasty when this happens at the end of the work)

Wheels/windows are a bad fit on the Porsche GT3R. Windows were a horrible fit on Fiat 500 and CRZ.
Yep, Fujimi is on a roll...
