Taurus door locks

Hi everyone
I have a 1997 Taurus. On the passenger door lock I can turn outside lock twice and it will unlock all four doors. If I turn drivers side lock twice it only unlocks drivers door. Is this the way it should work or is drivers lock not working right. Any ideas where to start looking for cause of drivers lock not unlocking all four doors? Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

You're probably going to need to take the driver's door panel off to determine if the switch and wiring is present at the lock key cylinder. While in there, see if there's any evidence that the driver's door has been replaced. Since it works with the passenger door the car apparently has the feature, so maybe you don't have the original driver's door. Per the factory wiring diagram, the key cylinder switches are effectively wired in parallel. If you find that the switch and wiring is present in the driver's door, and you confirm the switch works properly, the issue is quite likely to be due to a broken wire in the accordion conduit between door and the cabin. It's pretty common to find broken wires there.

Thanks Rod Found broken pnk/wht wire in accordian. I can see both ends of the broken wire but can't reach the end from the cabin. How do you get access to wire deep in accordian boot?

Is the wire broken part way between the cabin and the door, or is it broken just inside the cabin? If within the accordion, I would release the boot at the cabin end, then pull the pink/wht wire so that you can hook solder splice another length of wire on to it. Use a length of wire that is at least as long as the boot and of at least the same wire gauge as the pink/wht wire. Feed the length of wire back in to the boot, then release the door end of the boot and splice the wire to the pink/wht wire on that end.

If it's broken inside the cabin, then you're stuck either tracing the wire back in the harness to some point where you can gain access to it, or you will need to find the end of it and run a new wire from the connector/component it connects to all the way back to the broken end in the accordion or to just inside the door.
