2000 Silverado 5.3 l V8 has around 168k miles. The front hub assy, can you just replace the bearing, or do you have to replace the complete hub assembly. The driver's side bearing just started to make noise.

You have to replace the whole hub, it's not that hard just have to get the right size socket, don't remember what size it is though...

only use a timken hub assy. this is made in the USA. cost is about 180.oo ea. autozone.
I tried some from 1AAUTO that came from china and it failed in 10,ooomi. I had 2yr warrantee so I got my cash back, minus 13.oo ship.
cost was 90.oo ea. if you live in the rust belt you will need a 5lb hammer and a heavy duty chissel. be careful or you will break the heat shield.
torque the big nut to 155ft lbs. loosen nut before starting/jacking.

I apprecite the answers to my questions. I have always use timken bearings when ever possible. The heat sheilds are toast so I will be replacing both sides. I have also replaced the front CV Half Shaft assembly both sides. So taking it apart should not be that hard.
