Bumping Up The Rev Limiter?

Hey guys, how would I go about raising the rev limiter up to 7k RPM?

I have an '01 Cavalier with a 2.2.

I know these are pretty durable engines, so what precautions would I need to take before bumping the rev limiter up (if any)? I'm replacing the head gasket once I get paid because it's starting to leak.

Is there any benefit to doing this, or does the power/torque curve die past the 6.4k point?

If you would be purchasing HP tuners specifically to raise the rev limiter, not worth it. If you're already tuning it, go for it.

Mine has the Ecotec, so this may not be extremely relevant... I have mine set at 7,200 RPM, but the power does drop off noticeably at about 7,000 RPM. I left the extra in there just so I don't have to worry about bouncing off the rev limiter. It's nice to be able to go a bit higher, but not worth paying for, IMO.

It's also worth noting that mine is supercharged, so it's possible that yours may have some added ram-air effect since you have intake runners and I don't. It's also possible it may starve for air.

On that engine, kiss your head good bye without head work, stronger valves and stiffer springs, roller rockers...
