V6 3100 SFI Engine Knock

Hello,

I've recently got my '94 cutlass ciera back in December, it had a significant engine knock, but I was told it was normal with that style engine, and being that the temperature was below freezing, when the engine idled it sounded fine after it was warmed up. Now that spring has come I realized that there is an issue, whenever I give it a bit of gas, there is a knocking sound that's not there when it's idling. I'm not sure if this is caused by pre-ignition or if it is a bigger problem. I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to help diagnose the source of the knocking?

try and see if it is knocking from the top or bottom of engine.

Reallistically how could we possibly do that from here, soemone has to diagnose this onsite.
