Simply put I took the valve off the head and started the car air was sucking on the filter side and blowing on the valve side. This means my relay and pump are good. hooked hose up to valve started car again and air was not coming out of valve tapped with a hammer and valve opened. Replaced the valve. All of these test have to be on a cold engine and you only have about 30 seconds to run these tests. make sure you have the valve off before starting test.this way I tested the whole system in about 1/2 hr. The reason for this post is that everything I read on the internet was good info but very confusing. system consist of a relay,a pump, a solenoid (or check valve) and the hoses to connect them. the relay turns on the pump the valve opens and air pumps into the exhaust. Hope the next guy finds this to be good info. Also I read if the system works properly the pre-converter o2 sensor is bad. and you can tell by the white coating on the sensor.

Well done, this is a common problem on that system.
