ABS Working fine, but have PCS, SVS, and TracOff lit up.

I had 4 tires replaced on my 2000 Intrigue GLS. I drove home and it was fine. A couple of days later my daughter took the car out for a drive and reported that the warning lights were on. They included PCS, Service Vehicle Soon and Traction Off. I took the car for a ride and noticed the ABS was working, but no traction control. Pressing the traction control button didn't work. I had the brakes replaced a short time and that included new sensors. I think something may have happend at the shop when the tires were replaced. They reported they had to replace a bolt on one of the wheels and had the car in the shop for over 4 hours. I think they may have screwed up some wiring for the sensors while either replacing the tires or the bolt.

I've read a lot of threads related to these lights appearing. If the ABS is working and the light for ABS is not on, does this narrow down the problem to something that isn't going to cost me a gizzilling dollars?

The shop is willing to have the codes analyzed and said they won't charge if the problem is related to the work they did, but how do I know that they didn't screw something up while replacing the tires and won't screw me now? I guess I just don't trust them and I obviously should never have taken my car to them in the first place.

The car is going back in the morning and I'll have a chat with the Manager before they hook it up to be scanned. I'll be asking for a visual inspection first. Then I'll decide on the next step. If I don't like what I hear, I may just take the car out of there and have my mechanic take a look at it. I trust him, but I didn't go to him in the first place because he doesn't deal with tires.

Any advice on how to proceed would be appreciated. I don't have a warm and fuzzy feeling about the position I find myself in, especially after I've invested a lot of coin on this vehicle over the last two years.

Sounds like they may have damaged the wiring going to the ABS sensors on one of the wheels or perhaps inadvertently loosened one of the connections . Make sure all of the wiring is in good shape , properly connected , and secured to a solid mounting point so it isn't flopping around .

Sounds sketchy to me. The wheel speed sensors are integrated into the hub assembly, and cant be replaced separately.

Did they charge you for removal and replacement of all 4 hub assemblies? As well as the new parts?

Oldblue is correct about checking the sensor wiring out, and definitely make sure the wiring connectors are securely fastened to the small clips that the "ride" on. I learned this the hard way by replacing at least one hub assembly that I probably didnt need to. If the wiring connectors are flopping around it can cause enough change in voltage to make the system think there is a problem.

Short of a visual wiring inspection, the only real way to tell whats causing those lights to come on is to have your vehicle scanned at either a dealership or properly equipped mechanic. The unfortunate part is that a dealership will most likely charge a solid $100 just to do the scan. At least thats what they quoted me. A shop might do it cheaper, but Id say youre looking at a solid $50 just to find out the problem.

They scanned the vehicle, free of charge, to determine if the problem was due to anything that they did while replacing the tires. The scan identified the problem to be a faulty Steering Wheel Position Sensor, which had nothing to do with repalcing the tires. They offered to pick up the labour costs if I paid for the part. I thought this was a pretty good deal and told them to go ahead.

As it turned out, they were not able to find the correct part for my vehicle. They had ordered a part, but it wasn't the one for the 2000 Intrigue GLS. I was told the part was no longer available for the 2000 Intrigue GLS. They didn't charge me for any of the work. I was thankful for that, but I still have a problem.

I'm not sure where to go from here. Could this part solve my problem? Should I just be taking it to the dealership?

Yes, the steering wheel position sensor can cause the condition you are having. They are not that tough to replace, can be a little hard to slide off the steering column. However, If you are not comfotable with any part of the process, by all means take it to the dealer, or a shop that you trust.

I never did take the vehicle into the shop to have the problem fix. Today, I noticed that the Air Bag warning light stays on. Could this new light be related to the warning lights that are already showing? Based on the manual, the air bag may go off any time, or may not go off when you need it. I have some obvious safety concerns. I don't think I have much of a choice. I'm going to have to take the car in if I want to continue driving it. Has anyone dealt with a situation where the Air Bag warning light is on?

No, SIR light would not be connected to the other lights....it's a separate problem.....need to read the code.....

As for the steering wheel position sensor, sometimes it's a bugger to get the intermediate shaft off and work on the sensor......then you need a Tech II scanner to center/reset the sensor.....

As it turns out, I took the vehicle somewhere else and things are looking up. The problem is likely due to a bad Clock Spring. That's why the Air Bag warning light was On. When I asked about the other warning lights (PCS, SVS, and TracOff), the service manager said the only other light that was On was the Service Vehicle Soon light. Seems that moving some wires around may have solved one of my problems. They are looking into this further now to see if the two problems are related. I may need to order a new Clock Spring for my 2000 Intrigue GLS 3.5. Can anyone recommend a supplier that will ship to Canada?
