new to the game

hey all. just bought a 73 mercury conv from a friend. i am the 3rd owner.91k original miles. the car is in great shape. my problem is im not sure the direction i want to go. in other words do i stay in the original mode or make it a car i can drive weekly and feel safe that it will get me to austin from houston. rebuild engine/ brakes/ transmission. i love the car and want to keep its value but i also want to be able to drive it daily. im new to this classic car stuff. any ideas ? i dont want to "pimp" it out but i do want to make it safer and reliable.
