The one laying on top of the brake fluid reservoir, with the clothespin on the end. It has an "0" fitting at the end so it can be attached with a screw/bolt. The other end is attached to the firewall near the strap going to the engine block. I don't see any obvious place for it to attach but is is factory original and must go somewhere.

that is an OEM ground wire. I actually fixed my ground wire terminal that is on the firewall as the cable was not secured very good and the crimp had to be replaced.
tomorrow I'll see where the other end goes. could be the engine I bet.

but, i'm thinking GMC did this for a reason: look at the following K1500 pickup...

and check out this pic on the upper right side; it's going up to da hood!

and this one going to the...

ooh! i found a perfect image... going to the HOOD

(loOol, beating a dead horse with pix!)

now the real question is why did GM put a ground strap from the firewall to the hood?
http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m189/stussy21000/P1000422.jpg the one on the left is definitely connecting to the engine...

You're right. It goes to the hood. Ummmmmm...but why? I don't have a light attached to the hood, and there's no switch of any kind. And I couldn't find any kind of hole or place for a strap to attach.
A "grounded" hood. Okeee dokee. :P

your hood is supposed to have a light. the ground is for current to flow threw the wire not the hinges.
many years ago when we had ignition points I would install ground straps to the hood. this reduce am radio interference.. with the points long gone noise is no longer an issue ..
no hood light in the old days.

ah, sorta makes sense now...
my brother's 2004 chevy avalanche has no hood light now & has this dumb strap from the firewall to the hood :eek7: that's why i flooded this thread with pix... because when I was doing an oil change and other preventative maintenance, this stuck on my head & wondered "WTF?!?!"
slightly offtopic: i noticed some ground-straps on nissans by the cat converter flange to the body... quest and on my 240sx... gotta get replacements for them since they are now frayed/ broken & were there for some reason as well

as A GUESS , THOSE MAY BE for the O2 sensors ..making sure the exhaust is properly grounded so no electrical noise will interfere with the signal.
