I'm posting this to share information as well as to ask for all of your help. I've owned a BUNCH of 80s-90s GMs and every single one of them has shared the same problem. The cruise control quits working after the car gets to be about 5 years old. I have looked into the problem on a couple of them and the break was the same every time, the wire harness on the multifunction switch (turn signal lever, arm) becomes cut or broken at the point where it enters the steering column as a result of chafing against the plastic cover. I discovered the fix by accident one day when it rained and my cruise shut off every time I turned the wipers on. It did it when I activated the turn signals too but I didn't catch on right away. This is a very simple fix, just replace the turn signal stalk with harness. That is if you can find a replacement. Dorman makes the part but I have found that they only make it without the cruise control option. Can anyone direct me to where I can find a brand-new replacement part for a reasonable price ($20ish)?

Tried them already. All I found was the piece that does not have cruise control.
