Check fuses..... Fuseable links....... once you get the power back, watch your alternator, theres a chance hooking power leads up backwards can kill the Alternator.

THE COMPUTER/PCM SHOULD BE DAMAGED.
I always paint the positive cable and battery POS connection red.
some times you have a big red plastic cover over the positive connection which is A GOOD OEM add on.
battery always feeds the computer key on or off.

We dont know wht the #17 fuse is or where it goes to. Tell us that also follow that wire off the #17 fuse and see if it shorted it out. Almost sounds like you burned that wire and it is grounding on something now and drawing to much power, but we wont know until you tell is what that fuse is for.

disconect the computer see if any fuses blow. go to the scrap yard get a computer hook up see if it blows any fuses . if not then the one that was in there with the power reversal is the problem , which is what always occurs.
with the older vehicle the scrap yard computer might work same yr/model.
