Power and MPG Mods

Hello all!
I decided to post this in the general Chevy forum so I might get some more traffic, and because the question is fairly general. I recentally purchased an '05 Tahoe, 5.3L. I am interested in buying a chip upgrade, to boost performance and also mpgs... I am unsure where to even start... What is a good chip that will give me the best results for my $$? I have done some looking, but I dont know if I really need an Evolution CTS, or will I get comparable results with a less expensive option? Thanks for the help, I look forward to hanging out on this forum!

many find better power . as far as increasing MPG this is not going to happen. your vehicle if properly maintained will get the max. MPG.

more power/performance means lower MPG.

this costs about 300.oo. I believe you can pull ABS codes as well as others with it . nice features for the money. excellant forum as well.

I have found on these forums that a lot of people simply make statements of opinion that something will or will not work as if they are fact without offering evidence. When pressed you might find that they are unable to do so. Even a simple, "I've tried it," or, "I have seen the report of a clinical study that stated...," is beyond some responders.

I would replace the plugs ac irridium. check plug wire resistance replace if necessary. replace air filter or clean K&N filter. clean MAF with crc MAF cleaner, and clean the throttle body and IAC with throttle body cleaner. make sure you have no exhaust leaks. then calculate your MPG. do this 3X and get the ave amount. now you have a base line.

add the equipment or the additives with all the claims of higher gas MPG.

continuing to calculate your MPG. then see if all the added cost was worth it. I'LL be here waiting for the details on your results.

I have a 2007 Suburban and have a statement from a GM engineer that they tune the engines for the least drivability complaints. That better mileage is possible. I then have the frustration of finding lots of claims of better mileage from tuners but I can't find posts from consumers agreeing. I see posts where people say they ordered one but they never follow up and give their experience.

I've had a 60 Pontiac, a 67 DeVille, a 75 Monza (262 and then 307 swap) and a 99 Suburban so V8s ranging from 262 to 472 cubic inches, carbed and fuel injected, stock exhaust, ignition and intake to heavily modified. Best mileage is the 07 Sub at 13.5 mpg and worst was 8mpg with the 389 Pontiac, the 472 Caddy got 10. Yes the 3 ton 07 Sub gets better mileage than the 1.5 ton Monza did!

So I'm skeptical about improving my 07 Suburban's mileage but the way the V8/4 system works I'm wondering. I'm thinking the only way is reducing the load when accelerating from a dead stop and that would mean an electric assist motor (think Tahoe hybrid). I really think this is where the improvement needs to be made to improve the mileage no amount of cruising improvement can make up for the consumption to get the big brick going.

Anyone with experience with a tuner in a crew cab, Avalanche, Tahoe, Suburban or the GMC and Caddy equivalents like to say otherwise?

if you want to reduce costs to just commute, shop etc. the nissian leaf is the lowest cost that I know of. . the range is low, about 80 miles in most all conditions. cost to go the 80 miles is about 2.oo. range is stated as about 120 miles under perfect conditions. most of these are in weather regions where no heater is required because it does reduce range.

cost is about 40K.........

whats really great about this vehicle is no maintenance. you just plug it in ! check tire pressure. the vehicle can be controlled by your cell phone. this is a smart vehicle.

the only negative about this nissian vehicle is the battery range is not under warrantee. as time passes the range drops . the 8yr battery warrantee does not cover battery capacity loss. should this warrantee change to cover this , I expect more sales of these.

The Leaf or any EV is great as a commuter car and a good deal of my car needs could be met with one. My problem is the cost and as I'm researching the hybrid conversion potential of my Suburban I'm hitting the cost issue too.

I will be checking out the Diablo. If I get a tuner ibwill get one that allows me to set shift points since I'm finding at 20-30 mile speeds my Sub is more efficient in V4 mode but to be in that mode rpm has to be over 2,000.

post back what you think about this programer . the forum will give you good input as to its ability and results. If I had DOD I would own one.
