hey -
i'm looking at a 1989 carolla gts twin cam. now i've done a lot of research on performance parts and engine swaps for hondas because my original plan was to get go honda - but i stumbled across this diamond in the ruff so to speak. anyways - i was wondering what kind of performance based aftermarket is out there for this car. is there enough out there to gimme a 13 sec or better 1/4 mile?

There are a few choices for AE92 Corollas, you can swap in a 4A-GZE, a 20 valve 4A-GE or mod the 4A-GE that comes with the car. Corollas weren't really meant to run fast in a straight line, but it is possible to make them do that. They can be made to be great handlers. I'd buy it, has performance potentional, its more original than a honda and I think it looks much better than hondas. Just my opinion though.

Sorry, didn't mention what the engines are.

4A-GZE is the supercharged engine 4 cylinder from the AW11 supercharged MR2. It has 140 hp and about the same torque. Its pretty powerful in a light car like the MR2 and Corolla.

20 valve 4A-GE is from certain Corolla models 1991 and up. It has 165 hp and 125 torque. Its twin cam, fuel injected, 4 individual throttle bodies, redline of 8000 and has variable valve timing (VVTi).

The engine you have is the 4A-GE Big Port with Toyota Variable Intake System (TVIS). It is rated at 115 hp/100 torque with a redline of 7600.
