I am working on a 2001 durango 4.7 that will not start I guess it was running bad one day on his way home but he made it home. He noticed two vacuum lines looked really cracked so he replaced them still was not any better. He said you could hear a slaping noise on the passanger side front of the motor for about 2 years. I figure that was the slack in the timing chain. Then it sat for a couple days and know it will not even start I scanned it and showed bad cam sensor PO340 code. So I replaced it and decided to pull a plug and coil and stuck the plug in the end of the coil and held the coil so the plug thread was up against a bolt and cranked and have no spark. So I went and picked up a crank sensor and replaced the old one. Still no start and no spark testing it the way I mentioned above. What to try know not very familiar with these 4.7 and dodge for that matter.

Engine cranking, do you have voltage at the coil and injectors? That voltage comes from asd relay. I'm not saying the relay is faulty. The computer has to see the crank and cam sensor or it won't ground the relay. Have you checked all applicable fuses? Did you check voltage and ground at the cam and crank sensor, check signal, also.
You can also, check voltage and ground at the asd relay.

I am not really sure how to do all of above you have mentioned I did unplug a coil and used a test light on one of the two wires I believe it had a red chaser and it had power but that was as far as I have gone. I did not check injectors but it would not hit on starting fluid.

Okay I checked the codes again I am getting the PO340 code still I checked the red wire down on the cam sensor during cranking I have power. I also have power on the number one plug coil I have 12 volts on the green wire with red tracer but trying to set the plug against metal and cranking It does not spark. I checked fusses tonight also and all are good. I am not sure if the timing chain would of finnaly broke would that let it keep giving me the PO340 code. I am very confused on that he shut it off in his driveway and started several times after that then it sat for three days and know it will not start at all.

Did you check for spark at more than one plug? In the diagram, the top wire at the coil is voltage, bottom wire is ground. Primary voltage goes hot with engine cranking. Do you have a ground at the bottom wire engine cranking? Use an led testlight between the two primary terminals, engine cranking. I don't know why the computer would ground the asd relay and not the coil?

Chevy05, did you check the wiring and connection to the sensor you replaced?

I am going to go check wiring with the diagram and make sure I have power and ground at coil's. I also asked another friend of mine and he says that I should of had some kind of spacer or shim or something on the cam sensor but I have no Idea what he is talking about. I checked the red wire on the cam sensor and during cranking I have 12 volts.

I ended up having a extra set of hands to crank while I checked a couple things I have 12v power at the coil under cranking but have no ground at the coil. I am guessing maybe computer since I am seeing the ecm sends the ground.
