Had the gauge cluster completely shut down today. Car still ran fine.
I took the dash module out but didn't find any obvious loose connection or corrosion.
By afternoon it worked just fine. Seems to work/ not work randomly.
Any ideas???

Follow up:
The dealer wanted $1200 for a new cluster, so I found an indy who specializes in Volvo. He had a source that repairs gauge clusters by 're-flowing' the solder on the back of the unit.
Got it back and it's worked A-OK for 8 months now.
Cost $700 and we couldn't drive the car for a week (because the gauges were out).

Update:
The gauges are still working fine. I was a bit concerned that this would be a temporary fix but so far so good.
I recommend this repair!
