92 Lumina rocker arms noisy

When accelerating 92 lumina, there was a muffled sound from the engine and the rocker arms became suddenly very noisy and loud. I suspect either the oil pump went out, its drive shaft snapped, or both. Although the oil light works when I turn on the ignition, it never came on after this noise began (drove it the 2 blocks home). The dipstick shows full. Ideas? Thanks!

Worst case... somethin broke in the valve train or the cam snapped.

If either of those were the case (esp broken camshaft), would it even run? After parking it, I started it back up for a couple seconds. Other than the very noisy rockers, it seemed as though it ran pretty well.

What engine ya got. If the rear cylinder lobes broke off it'll still run. Shirty but it'll run.

If it's a 2.8 or 3.1 V-6, you might have this problem:

This one ran well enough to drive into the shop just as you see it.

I agree with the original assessment....I bet the oil pump fragged.
I'd probably start by disabling the injection and pulling the oil pressure sensor out, see if you get any oil pumped from the hole when cranking the motor. If not, you'll be pulling the pan to see what happened.

Shouldn't you pull ignition wire at coil one at a time to see if there is one cylinder that is not producing the same amount of power? Does it have a idle miss?
