I-Beam Axle Pivot Bushing Replacement

Has anyone done this?

I suspect its the bushings as there is quite a bad 'thump' when i go over bumps/potholes/asphalt cracks. It almost sounds like the exhaust is hitting the body, but it isn't.

I quickly checked for loose a/c lines but all are ok.

Thanks!

Yes, have done several for that type on noise from the rear.

Any suggestions/directions on replacing the bushings would be appriciated.

Do them one side at a time. Don't support the van with the rear axle, use a block of wood between the axle "a" frame area (where the bushing is) and the body to hold the bushing below the body for access. The section where the bushing is mounted is pretty flimsy, so it moves alot when hit with a hammer. A ball joint press with some adapters is recomended (needed for install). Pay attention to the orientation of the bushing and how far it is pressed through the axle.

Hope this helps!

For safetys sake, put a floor jack under the axle when unbolting the pivot bolt. It won't go anywhere with the shock attatched, but just in case.
