[Revell] 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 S/C - Strassenversion.

Hi everyone! This is the Revell 427 kit for a race car, and I used the parts to make a road version of it. As such, I had to trim the decals to make them fit (which, admittedly, I did a terrible job of) and as it's a race car, it has a huge number on both decals. >< But anyway, I tried my best on my first non-Tamiya kit (a gift from my brother for Christmas :P) and I'd like any and all comments ^^ For some reason the hood doesn't stay down fully. I'm not sure why this is, and have taken and reassembled the kit several times to fix this, and nothing is working. Oh well. Also, one of the brakelight chrome surrounds broke in half, but hey, nothing's perfect! :) Also left out some decals on the dash, because, and I joke you not, the dog ate them when the cuttings fell to the floor. Wasn't happy >> I forgot to do a Carroll Shelby signature on the glove box like I originally intended :( Ah well, here it is! :)

Nice build! I guess this one is your best so far.
I found that fitting issues are very common in all AMT and Revell (AMT-like) models. In this case it looks like the engine is not low enough. For accuracy and fitting look for Tamiya or Aoshima, then Fujimi for cheap curbsides to be modded, and AMT/Revell for Muscles, but keep an aspirin handy as they will give you a lot of headaches.
Anyway your model looks great, and you can still keep the hood open and scratchbuild some kind of holding bar, whatever the name is. I´m pretty sure that would be the best engine on that collection.

Thanks for your kind words, and thank you even more for all your help and advice through this project, it's all really appreciated! :)
I wouldn't even be building a Revell kit if it wasn't bought for me. :P
And for me, my best so far is the R390 GT-1 I posted a while back. :P
Thanks for your continued support Marianitem, it's invaluable.

Thanks for looking!

AF modellers taught me a lot in less than a year, and we are all here to help each other ;)
And as here I am again watching this model again, just a couple of "tips":
- try to use satin/semi-gloss paints instead of gloss paints when painting leather parts; and matt paints for fur parts, and so on. It helps a bit to simulate the texture of the real thing.
- I see some white lines on the edges of trunk and doors. I cannot tell for sure just with the pictures, but it looks like the spray paint did not cover on those areas. If the white is on the edge you have to take care to cover just a bit more. If the white is on the deep, get some black or darkgrey or dark-bodycolor paint very thin and use the washing technique. Search around for "black washing" "panel lines" or other keywords related to learn different ways on how to do it. Or look for videos on the Tube. You can also do it with the wheels, specially when using the original chrome-plating.
Here is one of many ways (I like it, even tho I do it a bit different):http://www.italianhorses.net/Tutorials/Panelines/panels.htm

Hope all these helps.

My guess on the white lines is that no primer was used. I would also try using a light wash over the chrome parts to give some depth & shadow to them. Nice looking model :)

That's hilarious that yr dog ate yr decals!

I don't know what happened with the white lines - I think the paint reacted with the lacquer or something, because after the paint and lacquer had dried and such, it ended up like that. And yes, I used primer. :P
And don't laugh corvettekid, it's a sensitive subject! :P

Thanks for looking :)
