question about autobody and AF...

Ok I was looking for some information about doing autobody and couldnt find a section for painting your own car...anyone know some good sites?

i think you should just get it done if you have nvr done it before. you'll spend almost as much money on tool and materials as you would if you just got iit painted. but basically the steps are

1. bodywork- get the car straight

2.filler primer. wetsand this and reapply until perfectly str8.

3. sealer primer- wetsand this also.

4.base coat- as many as you need.

5.clear coat- as many as you want on it.

6 cut and buff- wetsand with 1500 grit then 2000 and then buff it all out.


like i said tho you'll spend over a grand on tools, like a good air gun is around 300-400 bux and then you need a compressor, then filler primer is around 90-100 bux a gallon and then sealer is arond 50, paint can be from 50 to 500 bucks a quart, and clear is like 100 bux a gallon. that's just for paint. you'll probably spend around 25-100 bux on body filler and around 100-150 bux on sanding blocks and paper.
