Squeaks when backing up

I have a 2002 F150, 6 cyl, auto, short bed. A few weeks ago i noticed a squeaking noise coming from under the truck toward the rear only when i was backing up. It sounds like the squeak a rock would make in the caliper but thats not it. Braking does not affect the noise. Going forward makes no squeak. I jacked one rear wheel off the ground, blocked tire, put in nuetral and turned tire by hand. Noise seemed to be at rear u joint. Is this a common sound a dry u joint makes? Its loud.

i would recommend lubing up your shocks and joints and see if that helps right now i have a 1975 ranchero and the air shocks squeak like a MOFO i hate it.

I will close out this thread. I put truck in neutral, blocked tire and jacked up one side of rear end. Spinning the wheel I could hear the loud squeak was coming from the u joint. Dropped driveshaft and took off u joint. One cup was dry, looked like the grease seal had failed. Replaced u joint and all is good. I guess what was significant here to me anyway was how loud this squeak was. I felt no movement in the joint. Thanks for looking all and responding.
