Higher amp alternator

I currently have a 130amp alternator on my 2002 2500hd, with a snow plow, dump insert, and salt spreader auger and spinner. My battery is about 10 months old and the problem is that the lights go dim and the electric motors seem as though they do not have quite enough power with the current alternator. I would like to use a new 160amp alt. from a 2010 silverado. Both alternators appear to have the same plug, pulley, and bolt pattern, but I did not want to purchase the higher 160amp if it will not fit into my existing mounting bracket and plug into my existing plug. Any ideas ????

I would first increase the wire ga. used. also install another battery. then go for the larger alternator.

before buying any new alternator add up all the extra current required including added lights etc.

stock truck uses 70amps. a 130 amp puts out about 120 amps. so thats 50 amps for the added motors.

you will probably need a 210amp - 250 amp.. that would require brackets , belts etc. plow hydro or electric ? electric plow needs the 200amp plus ..

what can happen is with the high amp alternators with your use , the belt may squeal on first start and when high current is required.

2 batteries help smooth out surge loads.

I checked on this for you since it has been a while I got into this type of mod..

I would get the AD-244 alternator 130 amps at idle 240 amps at the 1200 rpm. when you order you tell them how many pins on the small connector. this is the voltage regulator input...most likely the 4 pin.

cost is about 250-300.oo ..

make damm sure you increase the wire size to handle that power. the OEM wiring sucks..with you needs.. get a new belt.
