I Drive a Dodge Challenger and am looking at getting new tires - they're freaking expensive. The best deal I can find is from tirerack.com. Has anyone used this service? Does it work well? Appreciate the input.

Actually yet i didn't tried those tires, last week i purchase some good tires form amw, as one of my friend told me about this so i purchase some accessories also.if you are interested you can try for the same.

I've generally found their service to be excellent and prices are good. But frankly, I would use them only if you know what brand/model of tire you want and can show a reasonable difference in the installed price. The costs are pretty much a wash in most cases, but going to a shop to buy them, you are stuck with what they have in stock or can order.
I say "installed" because at a shop they give you a quote for the installed cost. Sometimes that is included in the tire cost and somtimes it is extra. Tire warranty may or may not be offered or included. ASK! The one caveat is if they offer a "buy 3 get 1 free" deal. If it is for a good tire that you would consider, then check it out. But most of the time it is for a crappy brand or poor model of a good brand just to draw customers in.
Buying it from Tire Rack or elsewhere, you pay the tire cost and shipping, which can be significant ($50-100 depending on distance from the warehouse and the tire size/weight). You also should consider a tire warranty against damage. That can add $40-50. But...TRs big advantages are selection and research/reviews. I have bought tires from them based on what I wanted in a tire and have been satisfied every time. In fact, I use their ratings and reviews to check up on tires offered by shops to see if their sale is really worth it!
Finally, you have to factor in the install costs at your local shop. Walmart can do it cheap at around $30 while a good tire shop can charge $15-20 per tire.
That all being said, sometimes TR comes out ahead, sometimes behind. But it is more of a hassle than the one-stop tire shop.

I hear you , I got lucky 2 weeks ago, I searched craigslist and found a guy about 20 minutes from me selling 4 tires and rims and I gave him 340 bucks for everything tires still have the small rubber nibbles in all i think i saved 300 bucks because tires were mounted and balanced. i am not saying your gonna get lucky like me but try doing a wider area craigslist search as far as your willing to drive, keep in mind u need space to put the tires in and is going too far worth it?..use this link and it will help you search broader, in the search field type in your tire size for example : 255/50/16 good luck!!

been visiting for awhile- seems like a great place so I joined
tires I know a bit about so
can't remember ever paying retail for tires- prefer to wheel and deal and shop arround
Tire Rack is quite the place to go- most anyone can learn quite a bit if you take the time to really do the reshearch-
I have 2 Escapes and needed tires-
live out in the country so these Touring tires just aren't cutting it
Tire Rack- spent a few hours-
found just what I wanted
contacted them- told them what I wanted- where I lived
short of it was
Firestone Winterforce UV 245/70/R16- shipped to my door was quite reasonable
Dropped in at Walmart to see about having them mounted and ballanced-
stopped in at the Bridgestone Dealer in town-
pretty interesting really-
owner said he could get the same tires- sales, excise tax, mounting, ballancing, new valve stems- and since I was about to have them shipped to my house- quote "give me a week to get them here, I'll charge you exactly what you will pay from Tire Rack"
week later I had them on the 08 Escape 4WD- couple weeks later he again got my business
Can't say one thing wrong with Tire Rack or the Bridgestone dealer- both wanted the business-
in short- have and would buy from Tire Rack- but nothing wrong with stopping in at the local dealers to see if they are up for a bit of competion dealing
one other thing- that road hazzard and warranty really isn't that much of an issue- sometimes the seller would like you to think otherwise-
