Sulfer smell and sluggish Running since almost running out of gas.

I have a 2001 volvo s 80 almost ran out of gas it started sputtering and hesitating the gauge was in the red .i barely made it to the station .. i got gas and it hasnt stopped doing what it was doing doing also the check engine light has come on and the exhaust has an almost sulfery smell to it..... the car wont idle properly its idling rough..... wth happened? clogged gas filter? even after fueling it is still acting like its missing or out of tune.... could it be coinsidence that it almost ran out of gas ??:crying:

How close to almost running out of gas was it?

If the fuel light came on and you drove it for another 60 miles, then it almost ran out of gas, or if your like my partner and thing a 1/4 tank showing on the guage means your almost out of gas, then it didn't.



But it sounds like the catalytic converter is clogged (hence the smell) but that would not be related to it running low on fuel.

It may be the fuel filter, but generally if there is gunk in the tank, it's going to sucked in regardless of the fuel level.
