CV Boot Replacement

Any opinions on replacing an outer driverside CV boot? Had Discount Tire replace the drivers out tie rod and hub before they would align a new set of tires.
First time I go to change the oil since the fix I notice olive colored grease mixed with water splattered all around the wheel and caliper. I first suspected that they forgot to install the grease fitting on the tie rod. I later realized a small flat head screwdriver sized hole in the outer boot that was only visible when turning the wheel completely to the right.
The car has no CV related symptoms.
2004 Lesabre with 133,000 miles.
The question is:
1. Replace the half shaft
2. Replace the boot; and which one- is the two piece Dorman reliable?

Not happy with the quick boot, a regular boot requires removing the axle and splitting the outer joint to replace, I have done plenty and it is a PITA. A reman axle is about 75.00 and pop it in , your choice.

Agree with Max, don't use the quickboot, they are crap. Either use GM one piece or use a reman axle.

Is it really that easy to to pull an axle? Just pop it in? I'm not too naive, I know there's more to it than that, but if I consider a UIM/LIM job near 8 on a scale of 1 to 10 for what I am prepared to do, where would the axle pulling go?

I've found some good You Tube videos on the job. Doesn't look too difficult.

I noticed that the Gran Touring model has the 3.05 gear ratio. Was the Gran Touring option available on the Custom? I think I should have the standard 2.86 ratio.

I see in your post you have a 2004 with 125,000 on it. How many miles will you drive it before you are scared to drive it on a long trip?

Well..I decided to replace both half shafts. It wasn't too difficult. The hardest part was separating the lower ball joint.
An unintended benefit though. I was experiencing hard shifts in first and second gears and after replacing both CV joints the hard shifts are gone and she runs out smooth as glass.
I still have a vibration when I brake but that problem is for another day.
