Engine puked oil (yay)

A friend of mine just bought a 99 Jetta with the 2.0L and automatic trans.
This car was bought and fixed/turned over to the current owner. Sever problems exist, but the most prevalent one is that after driving for an hour, they parked the car, and it just belched out a quart of oil from the filler cap area.
Now, I see this nice little car has an oil cooler on it, is it possible that the thing has ruptured, or am I looking at a head gasket issue? It's certainly low on oil now as it's not even reading on the dipstick.
Along with this, I took the upper intake off (the backyard mechanics ran new spark plug wires, but wrapped them wherever they wanted) and while doing that, a few pieces of plastic broke all over the place - including the dipstick tube and some other thing that plugs into a sensor and rubber hose.:runaround:
If anyone has heard of this, can you shed some light on it for me? I'd appreciate it!!

Hey, just to recap this situation, I found the source of the problem!!
I'm sure that none of you will find this of any useful information, but I just have to post it.
So, I was going to drain the oil pan to see what was in there, and as I lift the car to be able to fit under it, I notice that the air conditioning condenser has some light green stuff in the bottom edge of it. Looks like it might have been from a wooden parking block or something of that nature. Ok, just noticing, but then I look more. There is a scrape in the bumper, too. Alright, looking a little more toward the back, there is a mark on the oil pan, and it's a little dented. Look at the side of the oil pan, it's cracked!!!!
Well, short of the long story, the teenage girl driving the car ran over a median, and creamed a small tree... in a parking lot.
Like I said, not useful, but I needed to finalize the post.
