Is there a General Impreza Engine Issue
Affordable Engine

I was hoping someone could help me out. I have a company called AffordableEngine.com that sells used engines and rebuilt motors and was wondering about Subaru Impreza engines.
We get more calls about Impreza engines than any other type of car. Seems like they go bad at about 140K miles especially the years 2000 - 2004. Is there anything I need to know about these engines to explain to my used engine customers why these engines fail???
Thanks

Interesting... I haven't heard about this issue, but I'm a Forester owner, so perhaps it's not prevalent in my "world". Hopefully someone might have some insight! Let us know if you do find anything out.

I truly do 170 bench builds a year, soley subaru engines. All the engines from 99-05 are the exact same. With the exception of the EJ259, the pistons, rods, cranks & blocks are identical. In long block form EVERY 2.5L SOHC is interchangable. The only variation is EGR or non. A few different casting differences made minor changes to compression (less than half a point) The only variable.. is the driver. Allot of impreza's see young drivers, more so than any other.

Pretty tough engines but I think people drive them too hard and neglect to service them when they should. I've seen people get good service out of them also. Like anything if you take care of it you get good service.
